Works of Sarkozy senior at Doha art exhibition

DOHA: Ten artworks by French President Nicolas Sarkozy´s father, Pal Sarkozy, along with German artist Werner Hornung are among the 50 pieces featured at a group exhibition which opened yesterday at the Grand Hyatt Hotel.
The Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage H E Dr Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kuwari formally inaugurated the retrospective whose guests included heads of missions, businessmen and other government officials.

Titled "Art Meets Matter", the exhibition is hosted by the international Art Wanson Gallery, which was responsible for a successful cultural project titled "Passion for Art", the gallery’s first venture in Doha held last December. This is the first time Pal Sarkozy and Hornung’s works are being showcased in the Gulf.

Sarkozy and Hornung collaborate together to produce digital fine art that results to eerie yet beautiful and outstanding works of art using new technology. Titled ´Out of Mind´, the collection is a manifestation of the inventiveness of the two artists that continues to amaze every art enthusiast.

Common in their artworks is a central image that carries the message of the whole artwork, which is surrounded by numerous other images, colours and lines that further reinforce the intended meaning.

´Endangered Species´, which is the most expensive in their collection on display, uses the camel as the central image to communicate their message of taking care of nature. The exhibition, which runs until November 4, features other types of artworks such as sculptures, paintings and mixed media art, the most expensive of which is a metal sculpture of a camel by artist Gari. Another highlight of the exhibition is the exclusive world premiere of the posthumous works of the great Galician sculptor, Juan Oliveira.

Other artists featured in the exhibition are David&David, Amador Braojos, Gari, Remy J Lopez, and Lebanese artists Gina Nahlé and Wajih Nahlé.

With this new project, Art Wanson Gallery aims to strengthen cultural links with the Middle East by promoting Western contemporary art in the region, while at the same time establishing a firm avenue of collaboration with Arab countries, favouring the promotion and sponsorship of possible Qatari talents, and stimulating permanent cultural exchanges within the world of contemporary Arab and Western art.
