DOHA A PAINTING exhibition featuring the works of Pal Sarkozy, father of French President Nicolas Sarkozy, and Werner Hornug, a German artist, opened at the Grand Hyatt Hotel on Thursday.

Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage HE Dr Hamad bin Abdulaziz al Kuwari inaugurated the 14-day exhibition entitled ´Arts Meets Matter´.

The exhibition has been organised by Art Wanson Gallery in Doha.

Talking to Qatar Tribune, the minister said, "The government is keen to promote cultural activities in Qatar by organising events from different countries.

We are also encouraging private participation in cultural affairs to add value to the art scene in Qatar as well as the Arab region.

We have plans to organise more such activities in future featuring prominent artists from different parts of the world." Altogether 10 paintings by Pal Sarkozy are on display at the exhibition.

They portray diversities of life on earth including humans, environment, nature, civilisation and fashion.

The paintings using the technique of ´digital fine arts´ are glowing examples of contemporary works in Europe.

An untitled painting by Pal Sarkozy which reflects the zest of playing football is really a treat to watch.

Matthieu Arranz, representative of Pal Sarkozy who attended the exhibition, said: "The painting which portrays the spirit of football was painted especially for this exhibition.

It is our way to support Qatar´s bid for World Cup 2022." Pal Sarkozy´s work entitled ´Civilisation´ is a beautiful depiction of rich French traditions, while ´Our Greedy Kids of Guy´ reveal anxieties of life influenced by the growing use of science and technology.

The work ´Cycle of Life 3´ is another attractive work which portrays the beauty of childhood life.

The exhibition also features sculptures of Juan Oliveira and paintings of Wajih Nahle.

The paintings made with a fine blend of black, blue and white colours are really the toast of the exhibition.

Wajih Nahle said, "The exhibition of this kind will provide an opportunity to an artist to interact with the lovers of art.

It also helps them to know more about the world in which they live."
