Alex Romano
His admiration for Kandisky, Klee and Arp, as well as Miró, has been a great artistic influence in his work but without taking a bit of originality to his pictorial personality.
Alex Romano who was born in Italy, Rome, began painting when he was only a child. At the age of 7 he received the Childrens Painting Prize and in 1979 he participated in the 5th International Exhibition of Childrens Painting organized by the province of Rome in the so well known Via Margutta, the most famous street in the heart of the old Rome, aim chosen by artists from all over the world. After finishing his studies and with his eagerness to widen his artistic horizons, Alex travelled around Europe and Latin America learning about the cultural expressions of those countries, to return later to Rome and continue his artistic formation by attending several courses in the Accademia delle Belle Arti in Rome.
During his studies in the high school in Spain and later in the USA as well as during his university studies, Alex devoted his free time to feed his autodidactic artistic eagerness, and during his holidays in Italy he made exhibitions in several galleries like the Gravida de Assisi, lArcadia de Spoleto and the gallery Minotauro in Rome.
Given to the melancholic lyricism of Picasso and fascinated by the expressive strength as well as the formal simplification of Modigliani, Alex Romano translates the reality into images of suggestive strength, images that invite to a fantastic itinerary through indefinite spaces, discontinuous lines, and abstract forms, all of them full of colours and some grotesque elements. His work is inspired by his love to the feminine figure, present in all his artistic expressions.
His admiration for Kandisky, Klee and Arp, as well as Miró, has been a great artistic influence in his work but without taking a bit of originality to his pictorial personality.
Alex Romano has given one of his works (precisely one painting called "Pueblo") to the Foundation Carlos Haya in Málaga in the charitable organization to help the Fight against Cancer with the name "Arte para Curar" (Art to Heal).
