James Feng Menglong

James Feng (artist pseudonym) was born in the USA. At the age of nine he started drawing spontaneously, copying comic books, on a long train trip across the USA with his mother to join his father in Seattle. He continued to expand his art capabilities throughout elementary and secondary school, in drawing and lettering, ending up at Prep school doing sports cartoons for the school paper, school activity posters, and being editor of a national award Prep school yearbook.
On his graduation from secondary Prep school, his mother suggested James study art seriously but he declined to graduate in Political Science, Deans List, from the University of Notre Dame, having done his military service in between his studies. He was then accepted into the US diplomatic service and served for 25 years as a highly decorated, senior diplomat in Asia, Africa, and Europe and in Washington as a Near East specialist. He did a little oil painting and India ink drawing during his free time in the diplomatic service.

Upon resigning from government service in his late forties, he worked as an international business executive in China, the Middle East, and Europe. He also started writing novels in his pen name - Eric Jordan - and has produced four novels, two published: The Man, and Operation Hebron, by Eric Jordan (amazon.com, amazon.co.uk), and two awaiting publication: The Man and the Shanghai Lady and War or Peace.

His writing ambitions satisfied, James moved full-time in 2015 to his larger art ambition to paint professionally in the style of Roy Lichtenstein, one of the famous Pop Art stars of the 60s and 70s. James met his artist ideal, Roy Lichtenstein, in Brussels at an exhibition, when he was world famous with his paintings drawn primarily from comic books.

James is fortunate to have Lu Xinjian, a Chinese top professional artist friend in Shanghai, who guides him closely as his art professor by email and Skype how to use Lichtenstein?s style of dots, lines, and solid colors to develop his professional capability. James Feng now works full-time in retirement in Europe on his painting.
