Critics rank José Maria David among the first animal and figurative sculptors, along the same lines as Rembrandt Bugatti, one of the few among the classics of the animal sculpture of the 19th century, Antoine-Louis Barye or Pierre Leads. Between 1986 and 2006 he created over 300 sculptures. His speed of execution, spontaneity and his nervous drawing make him become an exceptional artist. Several films show this exceptionally gifted sculptor creating a big size sculpture in less than four hours!
