José Carrera

BIOGRAPHY
Born in 1942 from an Argentinean father and Euro Asiatic mother, José Carrera is an artist as secret and wild as his felines, objects of his studies and animalistic creations. An old foundry worker, his knowledge of the bronze and his passion for the animal world took him, in a natural and belated way, to the sculpture.

Sometimes absent from the real world for several months, isolated in his workshop, without the least longing for creativity, he lives, as he himself likes to say, an orgasmic drifting.
He will only leave that state after having felt, in an instinctive way, the new expression, the new thought that will help him give life to that pair of Tigers or Cheetah, to that Panther hunting or those " baby elephants" called "Good Boy" and "Good Girl", his last creations...

José Carrera is atypical; he loves the spectacular and is at the same time very near reality. His volumes, his silver patinas provoke surprise, suggest the personalisation of the spaces. The quality of his patinas invites, together with his fountains (Crocodile and Elephants), to a functional and external decoration.

José Carrera is a rare artist, one who avoids conventionalism, rare as well because of the very few themes and work pieces created by him. The aim of his sculpture is not his acknowledgment, but existence itself... an ephemeral creative existence perhaps? ...

One thing is obvious, José Carrera will leave his own mark in the animalistic sculpture.
